London Metropolitan University's new Business School one of Europe's biggest
London Metropolitan University (a partner of MIRBIS in dual degree MBA since 1996 – a comment of MIRBIS) is delighted to announce the launch of its new Business School, which brings together its four business-related departments to form one of the largest schools of its kind in Europe and the largest provider of education for professional management qualifications in the UK’s South East.
Located in the centre of London, one of the world’s major financial centres and home to global banking corporations and trading centres, the new London Metropolitan Business School (LMBS) boasts 10,000 students and over 100 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and professional levels in many business sectors such as Accounting, Aviation Management, Banking and Finance, Business Management, Economics, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing, Tourism and Travel Management.
LMBS is a major and comprehensive provider of business and management education in London and internationally, and is one of only a few Business Schools in the UK to offer direct access to Bloomberg data, information and analytics through a suite of terminals in our Bloomberg Research and Trading Room.
Head of LMBS, Bob Morgan, commented: ‘I am delighted and extremely proud of the work we have achieved to bring the London Metropolitan Business School to fruition. Operating at this scale allows us the opportunity to invest in enhancing the support we provide to students and developing our links with the business community, including small business, and with overseas partners.
‘Although LMBS provides cutting-edge learning technology and quality business education, we want to further enhance the study opportunities we offer our students. The quality of our Business and Management course provision is ranked in the top five per cent of UK Universities.
’I have been impressed when discussing the School with senior industrialists and members of the financial and business community how excited they are about the potential the School offers to students and the wider London communities. LMBS is committed to developing its links with all sectors of the London economy and providing an international education to our students.’
LMBS students are similarly impressed with the merger. Third-Year Accounting and Finance student Fathema Begum, 22, from Harringay, said she was very happy the LMBS had come together as there would now be even more support from academics from all departments and more opportunities to meet students from other disciplines.
‘London Metropolitan University offers a lot of business-related courses so by forming a dedicated Business School, and one that is the size it is, we should really stand out from the crowd,’ Fathema said. ‘It is also sure to impress potential employers and new applicants.’
BA Marketing graduate Marian Toure, 28, commented: ‘I had thoughts about looking away from London Met for my postgraduate education, but once I found out the Business School was forming I decided instead to stay here and continue my studies on the MA International Marketing Communications course.
‘LMBS offers students the chance to share resources and enjoy all the prestige and benefits that come from studying at one of Europe’s largest Business Schools. My aim, once I complete my MA, is to work in the USA, and having studied at a Business School, especially one that has links with other prestigious international Business Schools, will make me look very credible in the eyes of future employers.’
All LMBS courses commence in September and many have a February start. They are offered on a full- or part-time basis and are mostly taught in the evening. Classes are held at both our London City and London North campuses.
LMBS also houses a Business Relations Office, which is just one way students secure placements within internationally renowned organisations such as Barclays, BBC Worldwide, Chester Boyd, HSBC and Arsenal Football Club. This contact with reputable London-based organisations has benefited our graduates who each year gain full-time employment in all sectors of the economy.
Our alumni can be found working in most of the major City institutions such as in the Bank of England, Merrill Lynch, Natwest, Schroder, Credit Lyonnais, Daiwa Europe, EMI Group, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, Lloyds TSB, ING Bank UK, Financial Times, DMG World Media, Goldman Sachs, Commerzbank, KPMG, AIA, Royal Sun Alliance, Bank of Scotland, Boston Consulting Group, Bank of America, Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales, British Council, Standard Chartered Bank, Microsoft and also further afield.
