Juan Antonio March Pujol

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to the Russian Federation
Juan Antonio March Pujol was born on February 27, 1958, in Barcelona. In 1981 he graduated from the faculty of law at the Barcelona University, and five years after that – from the Diplomatic School where he got the diploma in field of international research.
In 1987 Mr. March Pujol joined the diplomatic service - took over as program director for the European Union and Latin America at the State Secretariat for Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain.
In 1988 he became a member of the Bureau of European Commissioner for External Affairs of the European Economic Community, Claude Cheysson. Later on he was Acting Director of Political Affairs of the technical department of Subsekretariat.
From 1989 to 1993 Mr. March Pujol was the permanent representative of the European Commission under the Committee to support the development of the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development.
From 1993 to 1996 Mr. Ambassador held the office of Director-General of the Ibero-American Institute for Cooperation of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation.
From 1996 to 2004 Mr. March Pujol continued his career as an adviser at the Spanish Embassy in London and Mexico.
In 2004-2008 Mr. March Pujol contributes to the development of international relations as the Ambassador - Permanent Representative of Spain to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva.
Since 2008 Mr. Juan Antonio March Pujol has been aiming at developing and strengthening of the Spanish-Russian ties and interests at the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Spain in the Russian Federation.
Since 2009 Mr. March Pujol has been Ambassador of Spain to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Republic of Armenia, Turkmenistan and Republic of Belarus.
Mr. Ambassador is sure that Russia and Spain are interested in Bologna process of convergence and harmonization of educational systems in European countries in order to create a general European area of higher education, and the universities of our countries to be open to manifold and deeper cooperation.
Mr. March Pujol constantly emphasizes that relations between our two countries have good prospects for strengthening and developing cooperation in economic and cultural fields. It is only natural that the year 2011 will be the year of Spain in Russia, and according to its agenda there will be held the Forum of University Rectors of Spain and Russia. Moscow International Business School MIRBIS will also attend this Forum.
Mr. March Pujol is a big football fan, he tries not to miss any international matches of the Spanish football teams. While supporting the Spanish national team he sincerely wishes success to its traditional rival - Russian national football team.
While being young, the future ambassador admired Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and after he turned 18 years old he discovered Chekhov and Tolstoy. These famous authors and their books, which are part of the treasury of world literature, revealed to him the mysterious Russian soul and the specific features of Russian national character.
Mr. Juan Antonio March Pujol is married and has two children.
