Sir Roderic Lyne is the Ambassador of UK to the . He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1970. From 1972 to 1974, on his first overseas posting with the Diplomatic Service, he served as Third Secretary at the British Embassy in . In , Sir Roderic served as the desk officer for the in the Eastern European and Soviet Department of the Foreign Office from 1976 to 1979. From1990 to early 1993, he was the Head of the Soviet Department, which became the Eastern Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office upon the dissolution of the . In this capacity, he helped to develop the new relationship between the and the . Overall, Sir Roderic has spent approximately half of his career in the British Diplomatic Service working on relations with the and with . Before his current posting to the , Sir Roderic was the United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the United Nations offices in (), with the personal rank of Ambassador. He was responsible there for representing the in 18 international organizations, including the World Trade Organization, the Offices of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. From 1993 to 1996, Sir Roderic worked in the British Prime Minister's office as the Private Secretary responsible for foreign affairs, defense and .
