MBA Medical Business Management

The Head of the program MBA Medical business management is Professor Alexander N.Sazanovich, Pro-rector for modern educational technologies.

Issues of economy and management of medical institutions become more and more acute for the development of public health system in Russia. Re-orientation of home public health system to production and rendering medical services, shaping the market of medical services, development of insurance medicine raise the requirements to the quality of management. Today the heads of medical institutions should have professional medical knowledge but at the same time they should be able:

  • to analyze strengths and weaknesses of the instituting in competitive environment;
  • to work out strategy of the organization;
  • to develop the organizational structure in line with the strategy, goals and objectives;
  • to plan marketing events;
  • to use advertising, mass media to form a positive image of the organization;
  • to analyze the data of accounting and operation records as well as enterprise reports to make managerial decisions;
  • to form and realize investment projects

The goal of the program MBA Medical business management is to train a new generation of executives for commercial medical institutions who can solve economic problems, develop strategy for business progressing, form a team of professionals and use the most advanced business technologies.

Moscow International Higher Business School MIRBIS (Institute) in cooperation with the Faculty of managing the public health system of the Moscow Sechenov Medical Academy  has developed a joint program MBA Medical business management. Academician Renat S.Akchurin is the Head of this program, Professor Jakov B.Brand, Doctor of Medicine is a consultant of MIRBIS Institute.

The Moscow Sechenov Medical Academy is the biggest educational and research complex of the Russian Federation for training, certification and qualification upgrading of medical and pharmaceutical personnel. The Academy heads the educational and methodological association of medical and pharmaceutical educati0onal institutions of Russia. The Academy cooperates with 40 medical and pharmacy institutions, research centers and institutes of Moscow, it also has close ties with many foreign educational institutions, organizations and entities. Among them the International Association of University Programs on Health Management, the World organization of National Colleges, Academies and Doctors, the American International Alliance on Health Issues, the European Association of Management and Public Health, the World Academy of Medical Education.

The program is designed to train top and middle managers of commercial medical institutions. Students of this program are specialists in the field of medicine who would like to set up and manage a commercial medical organization. Another part of students are heads of commercial medical structures who do not have medical qualifications.

All basic issues of managing business organizations are acute for heads of commercial medical institutions, thus the first part of the program include standard blocks of MBA program. Specific issues of medical business will be offered to students during the second year of study which consists of specialized subjects and optional courses.

The content of the course ‘Public Health System. Management of Public Health System’ is devoted to the system of public health and issues of rather difficult relations between state bodies of public health and players of medical business market. The subject ‘Legal Environment of Medical Business’ deals with legal issues of medication market, insurance, licensing, medical activity, taxation of medical institutions, etc. The subject ‘Organization of Medical Aid on the Commercial Basis’ is devoted to the whole set of questions starting with entrepreneurship in public health system, general medical practice and family medicine and finishing with issues of corporate management in the field of medical business, holding, vertically integrated and alliance structures of medical business. Such subjects as ‘Marketing in Public Health Organizations’ and ‘Economy and Management in Medical Business’ deal with marketing, operations and costs.

The program includes both fundamental training, studying economic theory, quantitative methods in economy, higher financial calculations, a wide range of subjects dealing with management of all company aspects and the development of practical skills (brainstorm sessions, business games, consultations, case studies are used). Professional and personal contacts and ties established during the study form the social capital which doubles the efficiency of knowledge in case of solving professional problems.

Executives and specialists with higher education (medical) who have the experience of practical work and have chosen the career of manager in addition to their key qualification can enter the program.
